Head Action Soccer features four modes of gameplay: Championship where you must defeat all opposing teams, League where you earn points and try to win first place in the tournament, 2 Player, where you play against a human player using the same computer, and Training, where you can learn the basics of the game. Arcade mode is not available in this version of the game. Before you take to the field, you can customize the appearance of your team. You can also buy extra accessories and skins to further modify your players using points earned by winning games. Your team's appearance does not effect the actual gameplay of this soccer game, but it is nice to modify your payers to your liking for quick recognition.

Head Action Soccer is controlled by using the keyboard. The left and right arrow keys are used to move. Your player will automatically kick the ball when moving into it. The up arrow key is used to jump and perform headers. The down arrow key is used to lift the ball into the air. Press the A key to switch between the three players on your team. I advise you to play through the training mode to practice the controls and learn tips and tricks to help you excel at this soccer game. I also advise turning auto-pick and auto-lift off in the options menus to allow greater manual control in this soccer game.

When playing in two-player mode, the controls change. Player one uses the RFDG keys to move, jump, and lift the ball. The A and S keys are used to switch players and perform special moves. The second player uses the arrow keys to move, jump, and lift the ball like in single player. The O and P keys are used by player two to switch players and perform special moves.

As the name of this soccer game implies, the easiest way to score in Head Action Soccer is to perform headers. Get under the ball and spike it with your players' heads to pass it along and finally shoot it into your opponent's goal. Kicks are just about always blocked by the AI, so it is best not to waste your time trying to kick the ball into the goal.
