Sports Heads: Football Championship is the sequel to the soccer game, Sports Heads: Football. Sports Heads: Football Championship retains the gameplay and graphics of its predecessor but also sports new powerups and customizable characters.

Sports Heads: Football Championship can be played alone against the computer or as a two-player game. Singleplayer mode is played as a tournament, with players facing off against computer-controlled opponents to reach top standing. Your progress is saved in this mode of gameplay, so your tournament can be continued the next time that you play this soccer game. Two-player mode is played as an exhibition game with customizable rules.

Sports Heads: Football Championship uses the same controls as the first Sports Heads: Football. In one-player games, the arrow keys are used to move and the spacebar is used to kick. In two-player games, player one uses the WASD keys to move and the spacebar to kick while player two uses the arrow keys to move and the P key to kick.. The only addition to the control set is the use of the B key to grow larger in singleplayer games, provided that the "InstantBig" powerup has been purchased.

If you have mastered the first Sports Heads: Football, then Sports Heads: Football Championship will be a breeze for you since the same general tactics apply. Avoid kicking the ball unless you need a high loft; spiking the ball by jumping into it is often more accurate. If the ball gets behind you, make careful movements to avoid knocking the ball into your own goal!

Upgrades are only available in tournament mode, and can increase your character's speed, kicking power, and even grow larger! If you enjoyed the first Sports Heads: Football, then you will appreciate the refinements made in Sports Heads: Football Championship; if you did not like the first, then you should probably steer clear of this sports game.
